How to read the daily charts.

  • Net score = bullish % minus bearish % of the posts scored, from −100 (all bearish) to +100 (all bullish), with credibility and reach giving some posts slightly more weight. For the Fed, + means dovish (rate cuts favoured). For CPI, + means a cooler inflation reading. Each topic is scored on its own; there is no combined line.
  • An evening read, not the whole day. Each point covers about two hours of X posts, up to about 17:30 New York time, shortly after the US market closes at 16:00. It is not a full-day average.
  • Daily is not the weekly read. These points use X only and are weighted. The weekly social read adds Reddit, YouTube and Google Trends, covers the whole week and is unweighted, so the two will not match.
  • Samples are small, especially the Fed and CPI. Many days have only a handful of posts on those two (the table shows each count). A reading of −100 on a few posts means those few posts agreed, not that the crowd did. Topic-days under 10 posts are hollow.
  • One reader. The posts were scored by a single reader (an AI assistant), and obviously wrong posts were removed by hand. Another reader could score some posts differently.
  • Mood on X is noisy and is not a forecast. A record of what was said, not a view on what to do.
